Deutsche Theatre Re-Opens After 90M Renovation
Munich (MunichNOW News) - Finally, the red carpet can be rolled back on upscale entertainment in the heart of Munich.

After five years of restoration at a cost of more than 90 million Euros, during which the German theater continued operations in a theater tent in Froettmaning, the managing directors of the theater Carmen Bayer and Werner Steer can, together with Mayor Christian Ude, the Supervisory Board and its chairman Hep Monatzeder and cultural advisor Dr. Hans-Georg Küppers, now open up the traditional stage in the Schwanthalerstraße again .
“I am pleased that a Munich tradition was kept alive,” said Ude in his speech. “The German theater is finally back to the Palace of Smiles .” In addition, Christian Ude, Hep Monatzeder, Carmen Bayer, Werner Steer, the new theater restaurateur Lorenz Stifl, and presenter Marion Rüb welcomed another surprise award presenter on stage.
“Actually, Prime Minister Horst Seehofer was supposed to be there today,” said Rüb. However, he was unable to attend because of the concurrent film awards ceremony . As a worthy replacement, Helmut Schleich then came to the room to romp in his signature cabaret role.
He was, of course, by no means the only celebrity who had accepted the invitation to the German theater.

Numerous representatives from politics, business and of course from the entertainment genre celebrated the reopening of the Deutsches Theater, including musical star Patrick Stanke, who demonstrated the stunning new acoustics of the theater with a spontaneous singing performance. These acoustics will make a definite difference at performances of the Munich Philharmonic.
Especially for the festive occasion, the Orchestra of the City had put together a program with musical compositions by Leonard Bernstein and George Gershwin, led by Asher Fisch. Edward Elgar’s “Land of Hope and Glory” was provided with a suitable text. In the end it was raining glittering confetti from the ceiling and a standing ovation came from the acclaimed guests - signaling a memorable opening night at the Deutsches Theater .
