Munich Hosts Drinktec as World Beer Market Grows
EUROPE - Messe Munich’s Drinktec event expects to surpass its’ previous show’s record attendance when it returns in September, amid claims the world beer market is on the rise.
The ‘world’s leading trade fair for the beverage and liquid food industry’ - held once every four years - expects to attract more than 60,000 visitors from 170 countries, compared to 58,498 in 2009. The organiser expects 1,400 exhibitors from 70 countries to attend, similar to the 1,402 in 2009.
Drinktec will be held on 16-20 September at Messe Munich, and expects to attract specialists from the soft-drink and fruit juice industry, mineral water suppliers, dairies, wine and champagne producers, breweries, distilleries, marketing, wholesale and retail beverage merchants.
According to the organiser, the world beer market is set to exceed two billion hectoliters (metric unit of volume equal to 100 litres) for the first time ever in 2013. “Growth in volumes will continue to be a feature of the global beer market for many years to come, according to the market researchers,” said a spokesman from the organiser.
UK-based research specialist Canadean predicts that between 2009 and 2015 the world beer market will grow by 2.8 per cent per year on average.
