FC Bayern Head to US in 2014 to Play in MLS All-Star Game
Munich (dpa) - Bayern Munich will prepare for the 2014-15 season with a trip through the United States next summer climaxing with their participation as the international opponent at the 2014 Major League Soccer (MLS) All-Star Game, the German club announced Friday.
The Champions League winners will play the match on August 6 in Portland, Oregon during their stay, which will last about a week and is part of the club’s international strategy.
“We see the United States as an important market and want to bring our brand, our team and our philosophy closer to our fans as well as everyone interested in football,” said Bayern executive board member Jörg Wacker, who is responsible for internationalisation and strategy with the club.
“It is an honour for us to be the first German club to play the All-Star Game. The MLS has had a very positive development in the last few years and we are looking forward to playing against their best players,” said Bayern coach Pep Guardiola.
The All-Star Game will be broadcast in more than 130 countries.
The 2014-15 Bundesliga season kicks off on August 22 with the first round of the German Cup scheduled a week before that.
