The Twelve Days of Christmas, Bavarian-style (4) 

On the fourth day of Christmas my Bavarian friend gave to me: four Advent candles.

 In a tradition that is nearly as big as Christmas itself, the buying of an Adventskranz (Advent wreath) and lighting the candles on the four Sundays before Christmas is done by most Bavarians. The wreath consists of four candles (usually red) which often surround a white candle in the middle which is lit on the 24th of December. These Advent wreaths can be seen in the windows of many homes, especially those in the countryside.
