Huge support among party members for Bavaria’s Prime Minister

Munich – Bavaria’s Prime Minister Horst Seehofer was re-elected as the leader of his CSU party on Saturday, October 23rd. In the light of the current negotiations about forming a new Grand Coalition government, Seehofer’s re-election is widely regarded as a boost in support for the Prime Minister, who has been leading the CSU since 2008. Furthermore, Seehofer scored a new personal record, winning 95.3 per cent of the votes.
Meanwhile, the negotiations between the Union and the SPD about a new government for Germany are set to be finished by the end of this week. However, many major topics such as a pensions reform for mothers and general road charges have not yet been discussed. CSU’s Secretary General Alexander Dobrindt therefore did not rule out that the three parties “might have to go into overtime” in order to reach a result which will be acceptable for both sides.
