MUNICH (MunichNOW Fitness) — In conjunction with our ongoing series of articles about fitness and health services in the English-speaking community in Munich, we were forwarded this very honest unsolicited testimonial from a recent client at Evolve Fitness.
Here is Rebecca’s personal experience with this local fitness business:
“I had always considered myself relatively fit and active but had plateaued in terms of weight loss and toning when a friend of mine asked me if I’d ever considered personal training, to take my fitness to the next level.” Rebecca explained.
“I had been on the look-out for new ideas and motivation, particularly as I was training for a half-marathon at the time. I knew that if I was actually going to do this, I would want an English-speaking trainer, and after dropping an email to the top 3 results of a quick Google search, I got a response back from Evolve within the hour.
A friendly email from Simon, the owner, offered me a free initial 1h consultation with a personal trainer, at a time to suit me.
My first meeting was with Neil, a trainer “with a degree in Sports Science and over 10 years’ experience in the fitness and leisure industries”. Sounded good to me! The session’s aim was to discuss my fitness levels, nutrition and goals. Neil made me feel completely at ease, was super friendly and totally non-judgemental, and I knew within the first 5 minutes of being in the studio with him that I had come to the right place!
The focus for the first 2 months was getting me fit and ready to run the Causeway Coast half-marathon, a gruelling challenge involving running across sand, seaweed, stones and mud, plus plenty of ups and downs along the windy cliffs of Northern Ireland. By the end of the next 2 months, I had dropped 2 dress sizes, lost 12lb in weight, 4” from my waist, 2.5” from my hips and completely changed shape. I now have a waist! And biceps! And toned legs! And no flabby bits! (OK, that’s a lie; I do still have a couple of flabby bits…..but we’re working on that….)”
“After the high of seeing such great results within the first few months, I went through a period where I felt like I had plateaued again in terms of losing inches and told Neil that I was finding this frustrating. He immediately suggested I keep a food diary for a week which we could then go through together during my next session.
The following week he made some recommendations as to how I could tweak what I was eating – nothing too dramatic, but realistic, achievable changes I could make to my diet to help kick start the inch loss again. It worked and in the month that followed, I lost a further inch from both my waist and hips.”
Rebecca continued, “In March I suffered a bit of a setback, breaking my rib whilst on holiday. I was told by my doctor not to partake in any form of sport for a minimum of 8 weeks. On returning to the studio, Neil had worked out a plan of how to get me back to full fitness without exacerbating the injury, focussing on increasing my core strength and improving my recovery abilities.
I’ve now been training with Neil for a year. I won’t lie – it’s bloody hard work but so rewarding. I look and feel healthier, fitter, slimmer and more toned than I ever have, and even feel more emotionally balanced and less stressed as a result.”
“Neil knows exactly what to say and do to keep me motivated. He knows within 10 seconds of me walking through the door whether I’ve had a good or a bad day, whether I’m tired or stressed, whether I’m feeling pumped or emotional, and tailors his approach to our sessions based on that. I never know from one session to the next what it is we’re going to be doing, which I love!”, added Rebecca.
