Happy Fourth of July!
We are ready to celebrate the Declaration of Independence with a potluck and pool party (July 6). At the same time, as we are celebrating our nation’s rich history, American democracy is under attack. That is why this month we will be watching a dramatic reading of the Mueller Report (July 10) and hold a vigil as part of the Lights for Liberty movement, which aims to draw attention to the current unsustainable and appalling situation at the southern border (July 12).
In mid-July, Democrats Abroad Munich will also stand in solidarity with the LGBT community and take part in the city’s Christopher Street Day by holding an information stand (July 13). Volunteers are still needed at the stand, so please sign up here if you’re interested.
We’re also excited to announce that Democrats Abroad is going to be holding regular events in Franconia! If you’re in the area and looking to help get out the vote in 2020, be sure to join us at our kick-off get-together in Nürnberg (July 27).
Lastly, at the end of the month, the Democrat’s second primary debates will air. Don’t miss our watch party at a member’s home in Munich (August 1).
In addition to listing event details below, we’ve also introduced a new Google calendar this month. You can simply open the calendar with this link and then add all or some of the events to your own calendar, making it a comfortable and practical way of knowing what’s going on with Democrats Abroad Munich.
Fourth of July Potluck & Pool Party
Saturday, July 6th – 2:00-6:00pm
In Ebersberg, please RSVP for exact location
Celebrate the 4th of July two days late with a pool party and potluck in Ebersberg. Drinks and dishware will be provided, but we ask that you bring along your favorite American side dish and meat/veggies for grilling. It looks like the weather’s going to be good, so don’t forget your bathing suit for the pool! RSVP is required as this will take place at a member’s home. We look forward to celebrating this great American holiday and having a fun afternoon together!
This month we are going to gather to watch a dramatic reading of the Mueller Report. Here’s a sneak preview of what to expect. Join us as we listen to this important piece of investigative prowess and discuss what the implications for the United States and the Democratic Party are.
Can’t join us? Be sure to check out this list of ways you can read/listen to the Mueller Report. Also let us know if you’d like to borrow a copy of the Mueller Report – a member generously donated this to our chapter!
On July 12, Lights for Liberty vigils will be taking place across the US and globally to take a stance against the mistreatment of immigrants at the US-Mexican border. Our chapter of Democrats Abroad is organizing a vigil here in Munich. This is a call of remembrance to protest the treatment of migrants, especially children, in detention camps by the current US administration. If you’re interested in speaking or sharing something at the event, please get in touch with us here.
There are also many other ways you can take a stand against immigrant detention from Munich. Here’s a helpful list of recommendations on how to take action, including specific demands to make when you call your members of Congress.
Stand at Christopher Street Day
Saturday, July 13th at 10:00-11:00pm
Kaufingerstraße 2-4, 80331 München
(near the Galeria Kaufhof at Marienplatz)
As in previous years, Democrats Abroad Munich will participate in the city’s Christopher Street Day (CSD) festivities. We’ll have a stand on Kaufingerstraße to help Americans learn about DA and voting from abroad. We’ll also tons of Democrats Abroad gear available for donation!
Interested in volunteering out at our stand? Sign up to be a volunteer. Regardless of sexuality, gender, or age, help from members and friends of all backgrounds is greatly appreciated!
Join us to watch the second Democratic primary debate and discuss the issues and candidates with fellow Democrats. We will be streaming the debates (which will have aired on the two previous nights), so bring your best primary pins and previous election gear as we continue moving further along in primary season! Snacks and cold beverages will be provided.
Democrats Abroad Germany has launched a volunteer survey. If you’re looking for a way to get involved and restore democratic norms in the United States, please take the survey here.
As we gear up for 2020, we kindly ask that you consider becoming a supporter of Democrats Abroad. Any participation or financial contribution helps in registering and encouraging Americans abroad to vote – something we urgently need to do to succeed in the upcoming races for the White House and Congress. Our sincere thanks in advance for your support!
