MUNICH — (MunichNOW News) — On a wet and cold February night, nearly 100 protesters turned with signs and chants to greet VP Pence and the US Delegation at the annual Friday night dinner held at Käfer, as part of the 2017 Munich Security Conference.
Led by DA Munich Chair Meghan Driscoll, the crowd peaceably demonstrated around the Friedensengel on Prinzregentenstraße under the watchful eyes of at least 20 Munich riot police. As Jimi Hendrix played the “Star Spangled Banner” at Woodstock, the crowd cheered, car horns honked, and a few of the dour looking police smiled.
The crowd moved along Prinzregentenstraße to Käfer, walking with signs lowered and no chants (NOT MARCHING) as there was no permit for a march. This is Germany, after all.
There, the crowd assembled behind police-supplied barricades across the street from the famous Munich food emporium registering their loud protests over the recent election and subsequent actions of the new US President.
This was the third well-attended demonstration in Munich, sponsored by the local Democrats Abroad chapter, since the inauguration.
