Krasnaya Polyana, Russia (dpa) – World champion Ted Ligety of the United States captures his second Olympic gold medal on Wednesday, winning the men’s giant slalom race.

The 2006 combined Olympic champion clocked the fastest time in the first run and held on in the second run for a combined winning time of 2 minutes 45.29 seconds.

Steve Missillier of France had the fastest second run to jump up the standings and take the silver medal, 0.48 seconds behind Ligety.

Fellow Frenchman Alexis Pinturault took bronze, 0.64 seconds adrift.
