Munich (Special to MunichNOW News) – The fourth Montagsdemo (Monday Demonstration) took place last night at Sendlingertor attracting approximately 150 protesters and a number of curious onlookers.

The idea of Montagsdemo goes back to the late 80’s in Leipzig and Dresden in the old DDR where they played a part in the eventual downfall of East Germany and tearing down of the wall in Berlin.

The issues under protest ranged from world peace, to a free and independent press, all the way to the United States Federal Reserve Bank. According to organizer Thorsten Schulze, “the Ukraine situation is not as simple as the German media would have you believe. Putin is portrayed almost always in a bad light, as the aggressor. The story is much deeper than that and no one is reporting on it.”

Schulze went on to say that the demonstrations have been growing every week and while the number have been a bit smaller in Munich, the Berlin crowds have been much larger – as many as a thousand have joined in. “Social media has been critical to getting the word out “, said Schulze, “just take a look at our Montagsdemo Facebook page. We will be here next week, the week after, and the week after that.”

The crowd was orderly as were passersby and there was a police presence, albeit very low key.
