Free Music Production / FMP: The Living Music

Harun Farocki: Counter Music
Beginning Thursday, March 9, 2017, 7pm
Free Music Prodcution / FMP: The Living Music

Exploring the boundary between radical experimentation in sound structures and virtuosity in playing, The avantgarde record label Free Music Production / FMP facilitated some of the most accomplished and important cultural achievements out of West Berlin in the postwar period. Nearly 50 years after its founding, the work of this innovative experimental label and collective demands a new critical analysis with respect to its contributions to music.
The exhibition is curated by Markus Müller. In the frame of the exhibition, two concerts with legendary musician Peter Brötzmann will take place at Haus der Kunst on May 5 and 6, 2017.

Harun Farocki: Counter Music
Harun Farocki (1944 – 2014) was a seminal figure amongst the filmmakers and intellectuals that emerged from the highly-charged political debates in Europe at the end of the 1960s. His oeuvre constitutes an archaeology of the political economy of media and images that question the efficacy and validity of the moving image as a mode of documentation and analysis. Emerging from within this vast militant body of work, “Harun Farocki: Counter Music” explores the filmmaker’s continual analysis of shifting modes of labor, production, and consumption.
The exhibition is curated by Okwui Enwezor and Antje Ehmann with Damian Lentini.

In the frame of the exhibition, Haus der Kunst, Kammerspiele München and KINO DER KUNST have jointly organized a screening of works by Harun Farocki on Saturday, April 22 at 9 pm at Kammerspiele München.

“Free Music Production / FMP: The Living Music” is funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation.
“Free Music Production / FMP: The Living Music” is a cooperation with the Goethe-Institut.

“Harun Farocki: Counter Music” is organized by Haus der Kunst in partnership with Sammlung Goetz and supported by Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, Paris / Salzburg and Greene Naftali Gallery, New York, with thanks to Harun Farocki GbR.
